I am Angelia Orr, the Republican candidate for Hill County District Clerk. I am a native Texan and a 1992 graduate of Texas A&M University’s College of Architecture. I reside in Itasca with my husband and fellow Aggie, William Seth Orr ’90, and our children, Sam and Emma both students at Itasca ISD. My family and I are active members of the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro. The Orr family has farmed in Hill County since the late 1800’s. We moved our family to Hill County 11 years ago so that our children would be reared in a community where our family roots run deep and neighbors share our conservative Texas values.
WHY
Why is the District Clerk’s office important to you? This office is essentially the data manager of the court system. The current paper-based system is challenged by the increasing volume of documents. Records pertaining to our liberty, safety, and peace of mind are simply too critical to be managed without the most currently available technology.
SERVICE
Over the years, I have served Hill County in numerous ways. Current service includes Itasca School Board of Trustees secretary, First Baptist Church of Hillsboro Finance Committee and Itasca Chamber of Commerce president. Past service includes serving as chairman of the Hill County A&M Club and chairman and treasurer of the historic Philotechnos Preschool.
BUSINESS
My previous experience as a consultant at GE Capital, where I collaborated with a software engineer and hardware specialist, resulted in systematic reform to the warranty contract processing procedures. As owner of Orr Development, I manage contractors of all trades including electrical, plumbing and HVAC. Additionally, I work with building inspectors, realtors, attorneys, title companies, and many other small business owners. I have a solid reputation for turning out successful projects that add to the Hill County tax base and improve our community. An example is the complete renovation of 212 North Waco Street in Hillsboro which was accomplished in six months and included the complex process of asbestos abatement. This historic structure was transformed into a beautiful commercial structure thereby doubling its taxable value for the city and county.
VISION
As your Hill County District Clerk, I will serve you and utilize skills acquired through my years of public service and hands-on business experience to update the current processes and systems. The demands of this office require fiscal responsibility and accountability to the citizens of Hill County as well as our legal system. Most importantly, this office requires discretion, diplomacy, and true compassion for the people it serves. I have a proven record of service to this community and I am committed to moving Hill County forward.
Early voting begins October 18, 2010 at the Hill County Courthouse and election day is November 2, 2010!
With sincere thanks for your consideration,
