April Update

District Office Open For Business

Our new District office has opened in Downtown Hillsboro, and we are excited to begin meeting you there! I am very thankful to have Lindsay Kimbrell join our team as our District Director. Lindsay and her husband, Todd, a 5th generation Hill County farmer, live in Itasca with their two children. Lindsay is a strong advocate for agriculture and is actively involved in different volunteer organizations around Hillsboro.

Our District Office address is 214 E. Elm Street, Hillsboro, TX 76645, and the phone number is 254-580-9008. We look forward to visiting with you soon and encourage you to contact us if you need any assistance.

Preserving Fairfield Lake State Park

I am excited to share that my legislation to preserve and protect Fairfield Lake State Park has passed a significant hurdle. It was approved unanimously in the Culture, Recreation and Tourism committee , and I am thrilled to announce that four of the Texas House Committee Chairmen have signed onto my legislation.

This backing ensures that protecting the park is a top priority and is supported by a strong coalition. I couldn't be more proud of this accomplishment and want to thank you all for your support and encouragement. I am also very thankful to the hardworking and dedicated park employees that have been devoted to this special place every single day. I will continue to update you as our efforts progress.

4-H Day at the Capitol

Last week we welcomed hundreds of students for 4-H Day at the Capitol. I was delighted to meet with 4-H students and families from Leon and Bosque Counties and to hear about their passion for the agriculture industry. The 4-H program supports youth by teaching valuable life-skills through hands-on activities taught and supported by caring adult volunteers and A&M AgriLife Extension Agents.

Lady Pirates

State Champions

This week I had the privilege of congratulating the La Vega High School girls' basketball team on winning the 2023 UIL 4A State Basketball Championship. I filed House Resolution 902 congratulating the Lady Pirates and the team received a formal recognition in the Texas House Chamber. They defeated Sunnyvale High School 46-38 claiming their first state title in the 4A division and their first title overall since 2014. Congratulations Lady Pirates!

Noteworthy Legislation

One of the most important issues facing Texans today continues to be the financial fallout from Winter Storm Uri. As a Co-Op member myself I know how rate hikes impact many of my constituents throughout the district and I am working to provide relief to those struggling to pay their electric bill. That is why I filed HB 4590 which would provide direct rate-payer relief for costs incurred during the storm to Electric Co-Op and natural gas customers throughout the State.

Fairfield Day & Hill County Day at the Capitol

We recently hosted Hill County and Fairfield Days at the Texas State Capitol. I enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces and recognizing our communities for their contributions to the state. Our groups received briefings from state agencies and organizations such as Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, Texas Farm Bureau, Texas Secretary of State, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Thank you to everyone who made the trip to visit your State Capitol!

State Budget

House Bill 1, the state budget for the next two years, will be up for debate in the Texas House on Thursday! The proposed Texas House budget, is fiscally responsible while meeting the needs of Texans across the state. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to have been a part of the budget writing process and look forward to the continued discussion on our $300 billion biennial budget. Tune in here to see the action live and learn about how the House plans to appropriate state funds over the next two years.
