Protecting Women’s Sports and Texas Families

On January 13, the U.S. Supreme Court took up a case that could finally shut down one of the most radical assaults on common sense in America: whether states have the right to protect girls’ and women’s sports from being overtaken by biological males. This never should have been a debate. But the radical left has sued states across the country for daring to protect women’s sports—pushing the issue all the way to the highest court in the land.

Thanks to President Donald Trump’s three strong appointments to the Supreme Court, the outlook is promising. This Court understands the rule of law and respects states’ rights, and I am optimistic that a ruling expected this summer will affirm what many of us have been fighting for all along: states absolutely have the authority to protect women’s sports.

That fight is not new to me. I’ve been in it.

Since 2023, I have worked alongside conservative leaders in the Texas Legislature to ensure our state leads—rather than follows—when it comes to protecting women, children, and families.

That year, we passed SB 15, the Save Women’s Sports Act, to preserve fairness and safety in female athletics. I co-authored and defended that bill because it is common sense. Girls deserve a level playing field—not “political correctness” forced on them by activists. Today, it is the law in Texas that biological men compete in men’s sports and biological women compete in women’s sports.

That same session, I helped pass SB 14, which bans irreversible transgender surgeries and medical procedures on minors. This was one of the fiercest—and most necessary—fights of the session. The radical left fought us at every turn, but we stood firm. Children are not experiments, and Texas law now reflects that truth.

When the issue of privacy and safety returned during the 2025 special session, I didn’t hesitate. I was proud to sponsor SB 8 in the Texas House, helping pass legislation that keeps biological men out of women’s restrooms, locker rooms, and private spaces. I carried that bill because protecting women and girls should never be optional. Democrats fought tooth and nail to stop us, but once again, common sense prevailed.

These victories didn’t happen by accident. They happened because conservative legislators were willing to take the heat, withstand the attacks, and stand their ground while the radical left tried to shout us down in committee rooms, on the House floor, and in the press.

And make no mistake—they never stop. When they lose a vote, they file a lawsuit. When they lose at the Capitol, they riot and protest. When they are blocked in schools, they move online.

Their strategy is constant pressure—especially when it comes to our children.

That is why we must protect Texas kids at all costs. I will return next session ready to keep fighting—to protect Texas children at home, in schools, on the field, and online, and to empower parents to remain the final authority in their children’s lives.

Texas has been leading the way.

I’ve been proud to help carry that fight.

And I’m just getting started.

Thank you for reading this week’s column! I’ll be back next week with more updates on current events and conservative legislation we passed in the Texas House of Representatives.
