Why I Banned Democrat Committee Chairs

It doesn’t take long when you turn on the news to see that the Democratic Party today is unrecognizable from even five or ten years ago. It has been taken over by the far left and is now run by extremists. They are winning elections in blue states across the country, including the openly socialist mayor-elect of New York City, Zohran Mamdani. Even here in Texas, their top voices include liberal firebrand Jasmine Crockett, now running for the United States Senate.

These leaders do not put Texas families, rural communities, or our children first. Their priorities are far outside the values that built and sustain our state, and in many cases, they are downright dangerous.

That’s why, in this week’s column, I am focusing on possibly one of the most important votes I took this year to represent you in Austin. It is a vote that paved the way for the passage of every conservative bill in the 89th Legislative Session. For the first time in Texas history, we banned Democrat committee chairs in the Texas House of Representatives.

This was a vote I was proud to take, and it was a no-brainer when you think about the rules of the House and what’s at stake. Committee chairs control the flow of legislation. They decide what gets a hearing, what is delayed, and what dies quietly in committee. A Democrat in that role could have blocked bills on border security, pro-life protections, parental rights, and election integrity.

Texans simply cannot afford that. That’s why, alongside my fellow

Republican House members, we banned them from holding this power.

Some still falsely claim Democrats “control” the Texas House. Let me tell you: as someone who has stood up to these liberals, debated them on the House Floor, and fought for conservative priorities, that is simply not true.

They were no fans of the bills we passed in the 89th Legislature, and they fought hard to stop many of them. But because we took away their committee chairmanships, they were ineffective at stopping the tidal wave of conservative legislation we passed. In fact, I was called every name in the book: xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic—you name it. But I’m happy to take those slings and arrows as I represent the values of our community in the Texas House.

This year, we delivered the most conservative legislative session in Texas history. We added five new Republican seats in Congress through the Big Beautiful Map, banned men from women’s bathrooms, and stopped China from owning Texas land. We empowered parents to protect their kids online and gave them ultimate authority over their child’s upbringing. We cracked down on the trafficking of dangerous out-of-state abortion pills, and in schools, we

took a stand for faith by requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every classroom.

Rest assured, whatever false claims you hear, the Texas House had a record-setting conservative year, and I will keep fighting to make your voice heard at your Texas State Capitol.

Thank you for reading this week’s column! I’ll be back next week with updates on more conservative victories we delivered in this year’s legislative sessions.
